TG63, "Disasters and the Built Environment" ***DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 6, 2009*** The CIB Task Group aims to stimulate ideas for future research by exploring the range of perspectives from which the construction industry is able to contribute towards improved resilience to disasters and by facilitating the dissemination of the existing knowledgebase. To this effect, the Task Group addresses the following objectives: 1. Define a more expansive view of the construction lifecycle of infrastructure projects that encompasses the need to anticipate, assess, prevent, prepare, respond and recover from disasters 2. Create a portal for sharing and disseminating knowledge about resilience and disasters for land, property and construction professionals 3. Enhance knowledge and raise awareness among practitioners and researchers, of the linkage between good planning, design, construction and operation, and disaster prevention and resilience 4. Identify future research and work requirements relating to construction and resilience 5. Arrange symposia and workshops to facilitate wider discussions of relevant research pertaining to the subject area 6. Encourage collaboration and joint projects among members and other interested parties Special Features for the CIB 2010 Congress ***DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 6, 2009***Special track for TG63 To stimulate linkages between groups at the CIB 2010 congress, and to raise the impact that we as a research community make on the global stage, a series of joint challenges have been set with international partner organisations, such as the WHO, OECD and United Nations. In order to respond to these challenges, TG63 is organising a special track at the congress, under the theme, ‘Communicating scientific knowledge about disasters and the built environment to policy makers.’ The more we know about the causes and consequences of disasters on societies and on our built environment, the more we are able to be better prepared to respond, to rebuild and to reduce risks. This theme aims to bring together scientific research about disasters and the built environment in such a way that it can be communicated to those who are responsible for policy making international organisations or government entities. Papers are invited on all topics related to TG63 and authors are asked to consider how their work can be best communicated to policy makers. Special issue of the International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment Arrangements will be made to have selected papers presented published in a special issue of the International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment.
