W086, "Building Pathology"

W086 is essentially concerned with learning from past and current building pathologies and encouraging the systematic application of that knowledge to the design, construction and management of buildings.
The objectives of W086 are:

1. to produce information which will assist in the effective management of service loss
   
2. to develop and evaluate methodologies for assessment of defects and failures and consequential service loss
   
3. to apply systematic approaches to the investigation and diagnosis of defects and failures in buildings of all types and at all stages of life
   
4. to audit buildings in use to check the veracity of service loss prediction methodologies
   
5. to promulgate findings to all those involved in the production and management of buildings

Special Features

Special issue of the International Journal "Structural Survey"

Arrangements will be made to have selected papers presented at the World Congress 2010 in the area of Building Pathology published in a special issue of the Structural Survey journal. Structural Survey, edited by Professor Mike Hoxley and Dr Mark Shelbourn, aims to publish practical and occasional academic material for building surveyors, structural engineers, building service engineers, architects and all those responsible for the appraisal and refurbishment of buildings. The principal scope  is:
